1/24/11 10:20 am - 592311 - Martina at the Fendi show with Vogue

We meet her in the backstage for Fendi O', a not-to-be-missed appointment in fashion capitals, these days in Milan for men's collections. With her partner Dan Kurz she created, in 2005, Dragonette: an electropop group that has conquered dancefloors from Toronto to all over the world. Today Martina Sorbara, Canadian, born in 1978, lives in London, "in the Notting Hill area", and she creates collaborations with djs like Martin Solveig (who is also in Milan among Fendi's guests), and doesn't miss the chance to surprise her audience with energetic tracks and videos on the verge of fashion.

Here are some fashion statements collected by vogue.it just before the party:

"I like to wear high heels but have hairy armpits. I think that's very sexy."

"My haircut is not decided. I generally cut my own hair and right now I haven't cut it in a long time, so it's like a mop."

"I pay attention to fashion because I enjoy bringing the visual aspect to the music that I write."

"I like to play a lot with androginy. I don't like sexyness, I like a bit of masculinity. In that sense, I am inspired by David Bowie."

"My favorite video is Fixing to Thrill, it plays a lot with androginy. I'm like a doll that comes to life and becomes an androgynous superhero for these children."

"I have a pair of leather pants that I wear at every show and I can't wash them so they smell really bad."

12/20/10 10:24 am - 592311 - Dragonette: Top 10 Tracks of 2010 for Hard Candy

VIA HARDCANDYMUSIC.COM

It’s rapidly approaching the end of the year, and if you are a music junkie like Matt & I, you may be thinking about putting together some lists of the best music released in 2010. We will be bringing you our personal ‘best of’ lists before the year is out. This year, as an extra treat, we’ve also asked some of our most loved acts to get into the mix and send us their personal favorite tracks of the year! We love hearing what our favorite bands are listening to and thought you’d love to know also. This either results in us saying “Snap!” or having something new to check out, a win on both counts!

The artist we bring you is Dragonette! We saw them play live twice this year, interviewed them for the third time and devoured their summer release Mixin To Thrill, that features remixed Fixin To Thrill tracks and three banging new ones. Now it is time to find out what were the band listening to this year!

Dragonette are pleased to announce a number of things that we hope you’ll like:

First Of All, there’s a new digital single, “Our Summer Volcano” out on July 27th.

We showed you the art a few weeks ago, but here it is again (just because we love it):

You can download “Our Summer” here:

Feel free to post, share, love.

If you fancy trying your hand at a remix, here’s a link to an a cappella (please feel free to share this as well):

This single will be swiftly followed by “Mixin To Thrill,” which compiles the new single, the studio version of live favorite “My Things” (which you may know as “Titties”), and a host of some of the best Dragonette remixes of the past year.

Our man Rich Andrews once again comes up with the cover goods:

And here’s the tracklisting:

Volcano
Our Summer
My Things
Easy (Buffetlibre Mix)
Fixin to Thrill (Don Diablo Remix)
Pick Up the Phone (Richard X Remix)

“Mixin To Thrill” will be released on August 3rd digitally, and will be available as a limited-edition CD, available from the web store at dragonette.com and at the band’s summer shows. It will have a shiny little “Our Summer Volcano” poster in it as well.

6/29/10 10:00 am - 592311 - Free iTunes Download/New Single Cover/New Website

OK, if you’re getting this you probably won’t need to take us up on this, but “Pick Up The Phone” is the Itunes (US) Single of The Week, so anyone who wants one can grab it here. And “Fixing To Thrill” is super-sale-priced on Itunes this week as well. Spread the word to people who enjoy quality free stuff.

What we hope you will pick up is our new warm weather single, which will be dropping around the time of our US and Native Land tour in August.

It contains a new disco-drenched piece of loveliness called “Volcano” and “Our Summer” (a/k/a “My Summer of Sex”), which we have been playing on Tour for the past year.

Here is the super-fun artwork our friend Rich Andrews did:
